22/07/14 - 26/07/14
Situated in the south west of Wales, Orielton provides an outstanding opportunity to see a wide range of common mosses and liverworts, as well as many that are special to this part of Britain. Full advantage will be taken of an impressive range of habitats to learn how to identify these ecologically important plants and, at the same time, to discover how to use them as ecological indicators. With emphasis on field characters as well as the use of identification keys, beginners will be shown how to recognise a wide range of common species, and the more expert will be given practical guidance with critical groups. Daily field work, in sites ranging from coastal regions to some of the finest upland habitats, some of it in rough terrain, will be varied but not strenuous, and will be complemented by evening work in the laboratory. Further experience will be provided by means of illustrated talks and discussion.
