19/05/14 - 23/05/14
This course introduces you to the many different kinds of insects and other small animals in our freshwaters and is designed to help you identify what you find. On visits to local streams and still waters you will see these animals in their habitats, learn something of their life histories and collect samples for identification in the laboratory.
During the course, there will be several short talks illustrating the importance of freshwater animals to our environment: their value as indicators of environmental change; and their conservation.
Some time will be spent on the different methods used in studying freshwater animals, on how animals (and plants) are classified, and the importance of correct identification.
