Role Summary/Purpose: This position Wind Technician III High Voltage Specialist is located in Pipestone, MN . The High Voltage Technician III will lead GE’s supervision and/or execution of Operations & Maintenance of the all electrical distribution servicing the entire Facility.
Essential Responsibilities - Make Contract / Self-Perform decisions and select and manage acceptable contractors or direct personnel where necessary
- Supervise and support 24x7 operation and maintenance of the high voltage electrical substation and electrical distribution system
- Troubleshoot and reclose breakers that have tripped at substation
- Participate on an on call rotation for any grid events that take the sites offline
- Perform / Manage Substation maintenance when they are due at all 3 substations
- Create safe work procedures
- HV task supervisor and creates HV switching orders and directs HV switching
- Evaluate operations and maintenance practices for improved asset utilization
- Provide technical expertise to ensure that equipment is properly utilized
- Perform safety audits for personnel activities and contractors
- Maintain safety and environmental records
- Specify scope of work for contractors and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Troubleshoot and problem solve
Qualifications/Requirements: - Associates Degree with a minimum of 7 years of progressive electrical maintenance experience in plant operation and maintenance, OR a Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering with a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and maintenance
- Minimum of 5 years of Wind Farm experience with a portion of that time spent gaining knowledge of collection and transmission systems
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a supervisory role
Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
Desired Characteristics - Advanced degree in a related field from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of substation components including CT’s, PT’s, breakers, transformers, and circuit switches
- Ability to inspect, calibrate, and test Power Generation and T&D Relays, transducers, SCADA inputs
- Be able to perform Medium and High Voltage underground splice repairs or have knowledge of process involved
- Expert knowledge in electrical distribution equipment, maintenance systems, and principles
- Prior installation, commissioning and site construction experience in Wind Energy, or Power Generation Industry
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Ability to write switching orders for HV equipment
- Ability to download SEL Relay events
- Safely isolate and repair faults on collection systems
- Must have knowledge of metering, SCADA, RTU’s, & Harmonics, and Power Quality
- Be able to safely operate all necessary testing equipment and be able to diagnose test results
- Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet processing, e-mail programs, facility control and management systems, and computer diagnostic and troubleshooting tools
- Ability and willingness to: read, and interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations; to write reports; to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
- Wind facility operations experience and wind turbine experience

- Basic Electrical / Mechanical background
- Ability and willingness to take initiative, and work without direct supervision
- Competitive score on technical aptitude written testing
- Knowledge of heavy equipment required for facility maintenance with a working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
- Comprehensive writing skills are required to meet contractual reporting obligations
- Possess a strong Electrical Background
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings
- Considerable knowledge of computers and experience in the use of DOS and Windows
- Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, and equipment related to electrical transmission distribution and substation equipment maintenance and repair
- Possess the ability to effectively communicate with GE’s prime customer, the local utility, and O&M personnel to ensure disruptions are well managed and meet contractual demands
- Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside of the Wind Farm
