Position Overview

 

BSR’s HERproject is a global women’s empowerment initiative which provides education and access programs to women working in factories and farms in Asia and Africa. Working in partnership with thirty multinational companies, sixteen local NGOs, and with support from the Swedish and Dutch governments, the Levi Strauss Foundation, and others, HERproject has aggressive scale ambitions to empower millions of women in global supply chains.

 

The HERproject Health Manager will lead the management and aggressive growth of BSR’s HERproject Health program globally. The manager will work closely with the HERproject global team, and will be supervised by the global program director based in San Francisco.

 

BSR is seeking an entrepreneurial individual with a strong professional background in public health and global development, and a passion for leveraging business to promote social justice and sustainability.

 

The position represents a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, global team, and to contribute to the scaling up of a successful and innovative project in the intersection between business and development.

 

Responsibilities

  • Program Management: Leading HERproject Health program activities globally, working in collaboration with the BSR internal team as well as local health partners in HERproject countries. A key priority of the Manager is to promote the rapid expansion of activities in 2014 and 2015. Specific program management responsibilities include:
    • Promoting excellence in the execution of HERhealth activities;
    • Leading a global internal HERproject health program team;
    • Identification of local partners and building the capacity of existing partners to execute HERproejct health programming effectively and efficiently
    • Oversight of reporting to HERproject stakeholders including participating brands, funding partners and participating workplaces
    • Management of HERproject health finances in collaboration with the HERproject director and BSR financial team
    • Donor Engagement and Proposal Writing: Relationship management of existing donors, including grant reporting oversight. Opportunity development with existing and new donors, including proposal identification and development to enable program expansion.
    • Business Recruitment and Advocacy: Supporting engagement and recruitment of international buyers and factories to participate in HERhealth programs.
    • Partnerships and Network-building: Building a strong network of research-institutions and health-focused NGOs to promote partnerships for implementation and/or scale of HERproject health programming.
    • Monitoring and Evaluation: Supervising robust monitoring and evaluation practices, including supporting external research partners, training internal team members, reviewing and improving M&E tools, and basic data analysis.
    • Marketing and Communications: Contributing to HERproject health marketing materials including print, web, and social media-based. Leading and reviewing editorial and research, including blogs, articles, and working papers in collaboration with the BSR communications and research teams.
    • Strategy Development: Collaborating with the HERproject Director to develop the HERproject health program long-term strategy.
    • Other responsibilities: The Manager may also be expected at times to contribute to other areas of work based on availability and BSR need. Pending HERproject funding, the job function may change in the future.

 

Qualifications

NOTE:  Only candidates with these specific requirements will be considered:

  • Master’s degree in public health, international development or other relevant area.
  • Minimum 7 years relevant work experience, in the area of international development, public health, and/or public policy.
  • Fluent in English required. Fluent in another relevant language preferred.
  • Practical field experience working and/or living abroad in low-or middle-income country(s).
  • Willingness to undertake business travel including to challenging environments (~40% time).
  • Strong knowledge base on one or more key areas related to HERproject implementation (e.g. women’s empowerment, public health, and/or global supply chain issues).
  • Conceptual and practical knowledge of monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience working with funding institutions in Europe and/or the United States and/or knowledge of grant-writing for private foundation and bilateral donors.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to meet stringent deadlines, communicate progress on projects, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write complicated documents quickly and well and communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in collaborating and communicating effectively with others
  • Adaptable, entrepreneurial, can-do nature.
