The Head of Global Communications advises the senior management team on communications, media and brand and is responsible for the strategic direction and effectively delivery of communications across the regions.

The Head of Global Communications drives the communications agenda, developing resources and robust systems to share the impact of our work and the expertise we offer. This role leads an international team of communications associates.

This work involves closely partnering with many internal stakeholders and catering for a diverse audience of existing and potential donors, partners and beneficiaries.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Organisational Communications and Managing the Global Team (40%)

 

  • Strategy. Deliver and develop the strategic communications strategy and work plan to support the organisation’s business objectives, extend awareness of our work and increase our reach. Provide consistent communications messages and materials to support this.

  • Production. Lead and direct the collating, development, design and distribution of materials. Advise and support the Regional Communications Leads and project teams as they create their materials. Lead on developing global materials, and adapt and share global materials.

  • People Management. Lead and direct communications staff; devise protocols, assign responsibilities and assess performance against agreed criteria; devise and operate the team and communications needs within budgets agreed by senior management team.

  • Knowledge Management. Continue to rollout and strengthen structures to ensure regular reporting and updating on projects, outputs and achievements. Ensure a comprehensive database of protocols, publications and relevant information and up to date core communications and materials.

     

    Global project work (60%)

  • Managing, driving and implementing an ambitious communications agenda for our global projects, in particular the ASSAR project.

  • Managing a substantial budget to a high standard and ensuring value for money.

  • Managing relationships with project partners, including collaborating on content.

Minimum Criteria

  • Good first degree on relevant subject

  • 5+ years in charity communications role

  • Experience or background working on climate change

  • Demonstrable understanding of what makes effective communications for development

  • Strong leadership and project management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrable experience of building strategic communications campaigns with results

  • High level of innovativeness and creativity

  • A blue-skies and big-picture thinker

  • Proficiently use word press, presentation and publication software

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to deliver under pressure and to tight deadlines

     

Desirable Criteria

  • Masters on relevant subject

  • Understanding on web design and management

  • Graphic design skills or video experience

  • Experience working with academic, development and policy community
