Location: Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems Group, NOC, Southampton

Description: Applications are invited for a Head, Ocean Environmental Management within the NERC Strategic Research Division, at the National Oceanography Centre. You will develop a team to address issues in the use of ocean resources and the conservation of marine biodiversity.

You should have a broad knowledge of deep-sea ecosystems with a proven track record of applying knowledge to ocean policies. Knowledge of ecosystem modelling, life history processes, hydrography and molecular biology is desirable. You will work closely with deep-sea biologists in the Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems Group, and specialists in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in the Geology and Geophysics Group.

You will have a PhD or higher degree in marine ecology. You will have experience in leading expeditions at sea and will have a successful record of winning multi-disciplinary research grants. Evidence of funding by international funding organisations and industry is desirable. You will have detailed knowledge of national and international policies in ocean management. An extensive publication record is essential.

This is an open ended position for a leader in marine ecology and its application to ocean management. The post is available from 1 September 2010.
