Description

18/07/14 - 20/07/14

This course introduces and deals with the differences between the grass, sedge and rush families and their identification. It is aimed both at beginners and those, including professionals, who wish to improve their existing identification skills. The use of keys will be introduced as the course progresses.

The diversity of habitats in and around the National Park means field visits to both upland and lowland sites are intergrated into the course. Participants will visit Migneint Moor, or similar upland environment in northern Snowdonia, which will contrast with visits to lowland meadows around Penmachno and Llanrwst. Although much of the recognition will be learnt in the field, evening sessions in the laboratory will be used to discuss the day’s findings and for looking at certain features in more detail. By the end of the course, participants will have had a good introduction to grasses, sedges and rushes in different UK habitats.
