17th - 19th June
This course is for countryside professionals or amateur naturalists interested in getting to grips with identifying these important groups of lookalike plants.
Grasses are one of the largest wild flower families and form an important basis of many plant communities. Sedges and rushes have smaller species totals in the UK, but are well represented in many habitats. Many people shy away from naming many representatives of these groups, perceiving them to be difficult. However, once their structure is understood the similarities and differences between the various families and species become clear.
This weekend therefore concentrates on the principles of identifying 'grass-like' plants, looking carefully at the structure of the plants as well as seeing them in their natural habitats.
