Job Title TWSA Governance Review Coordinator
Location Negotiable, the position can be based in any Wilderness Society office or campaign centre
depending on location of the successful applicant.
Salary Proportional to Full-time $58,000
Hours 22.5 hours per week
Duration 12 month contract

Reports to The position directly accountable to TWSA Manager and reports on a monthly basis to TWSA Finance and Admin Committee

The Position

The TWS Australia Governance Officer will be responsible for completing a comprehensive review of the governance arrangements of TWS Australia, provide a series of recommendations outlining future directions and options for governance reform across the organisation and its member bodies and support actions to implement the recommendations.

The TWS Australia Governance Officer will work closely with the TWS Australia Finance and Admin Committee, The TWS Australia Governance Committee and the TWS Inc Governance Officer to fully develop terms of reference for the review and to identify potential areas of cross over and collaboration with the current TWS Inc governance review.

The review is expected to engage member bodies of TWS Australia and expert consultants to produce a series of recommendations for improved governance across the organisation and to also make recommendations as to how TWS Australia’s purpose can be more fully realised through governance reform.

The role will involve some travel as the review progresses, to consult with stakeholders and to then present recommendations to all member bodies

Key roles/tasks

· Develop the scope and plan for the 2011 governance review with the Finance and Admin Committee, the TWSA Governance committee, and the TWS Inc Governance Officer.
· Be the main driver of and resource person for the review.
· Engage and then be the TWS contact point for any external advisors, subject to approval by the Finance and Admin Committee and the Governance Committee.
· Provide options and recommendations for governance reform across TWS Australia.
· Consult on and develop constitutional modifications.
· Ensure adequate consultation with TWS stakeholders.
· At the completion of the review, lead a ‘Governance Roadshow’, to present reform options & undertake a final round of consultations with all TWS Australia member groups.
· Ensure statutory requirements are met with regard to any changes to TWSA Constitution and decision making forums addressing these changes.
· Support the implementation of any recommendations from the review
· Take the initiative to support continuous improvement of governance information and resources across TWSA

Essential Selection Criteria

· Commitment to The Wilderness Society’s purpose and values.
· Demonstrated expertise in administration requirements, policy and governance of Federated structures.
· Working knowledge of constitutions and incorporated associations, and common law and statutory requirements.
· An understanding of consensus decision making processes and building organisational consensus.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Highly organised, self motivated person with demonstrated experience working in a team and independently with limited supervision.

Desirable selection criteria

· Knowledge of TWS governance, history, structure and policy.
· Awareness of governance trends and developments in the eNGO and not-for-profit sectors.
· Demonstrable commitment to and experience working with, or in, community-based and cooperative organisations.
· Sense of humour, patience, determination and flexibility.

Accountabilities

· This position reports on a monthly basis to the TWS Australia Finance and Admin Committee and is managed on a daily basis by TWSA Business Manager.
