INTASAVE-CARIBSAVE Group is seeking an experienced and self-motivated individual for the position of Global Communications Officer, initially for a one-year term (open to renewal for the right candidate).  The GCO will work directly with the Global Engagement & Communications Manager and Regional Communications Officers. The GCO will be responsible for, but not limited to:

                                                                

  • Communicating what we do through high quality resources and products (45%)

  • Working with colleagues on the ASSAR project to design, trial and refine innovative approaches to communicating climate change to vulnerable groups in semi-arid regions of Africa & Asia;

  • Providing editorial and communications specialist support to global colleagues to translate project work into creative, high impact resources, such as articles, op-eds, presentations and training modules.

  • Supporting INTASAVE in producing and distributing high quality communications materials and multimedia products (brochures, leaflets, newsletter, video etc.), as needed

  • Assisting in communicating and advocating for INTASAVE to partners and other stakeholders, including: support to the development INTASAVE communication plan; development of creative communications strategies; and implementation of communication activities as planned

  • Managing the ASSAR Community of Practice (25%)

  • Supporting the launch of the CoP through a series of demonstrations at workshops, conferences etc.

  • Taking overall responsibility for the ASSAR Community of Practice, including growing the number of members and ensuring a high level of activity

  • Initiating conversations on adaptation related issues and engaging in dialogue with members

  • Sharing resources within the CoP to enable and encourage feedback, sharing experiences and dialogue on the resources, to create an active learning environment.

  • Running webinars to support capacity building activities and also more dynamic and interactive knowledge sharing activities, doing more with the resources available by expanding on resource-intensive face-to-face workshops to online solutions for reaching more of our target audiences

  • Managing our Social Media (30%)
  • Managing the social media marketing strategy for the INTASAVE-CARIBSAVE Group; focusing on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and working with Regional Communications Leads on regional social media.
  • Execution of all global social media activities for the INTASAVE-CARIBSAVE Group
  • Grow our online reach through SEO tactics and SEO strategies and mapping through analytics
  • Working with social media management software
  • Writing one to two news articles a month
  • Develop and update project/INTASAVE-CARIBSAVE mailing lists: Develop and update mailing lists’ including all email addresses of INTASAVE-CARIBSAVE partners, stakeholders, new contacts so that INTASAVE-CARIBSAVE can communicate with these groups via email.

 

Essential selection criteria is as follows:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in a relevant field

  • Strong background in climate change and  / or international development

  • At least 2 years practical professional work experience in communications and/or print and broadcast media

  • Web management experience

                                                          

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and team-work skills

  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong writing skills for newsletters, brochures and websites

  • Strong skills in photography be able to take good pictures and video capturing and editing

  • High level of innovativeness and creativity

  • A blue-skies and big-picture thinker

  • Proficiently use word pressing, presentation and publication software

  • Understanding on web designing and administration

  • Graphic design skills or video experience not essential but an asset

  • High attention to details
