GLASTIR Conservation Officer

Job purpose

The post will help ensure that the Meirionnydd Site Team are able to consent the large number of Glastir applications that affect SSSIs in Meirionnydd.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Act  as a point of contact for NRW in Meirionnydd for the Welsh Government Glastir Contract Managers;
  • Produce Glastir consent proformas as the basis for consenting Glastir agreements within SSSIs;
  • Produce SSSI consents for Glastir agreements
  • Ensure all correspondence and paperwork is appropriately scanned and filed
  • On occasion carry out field visits to assess the condition of SSSIs and suitability of proposed Glastir management options.

Job Specific Requirements

  • A strong understanding of Welsh agricultural issues
  • Ability to identify common wild plants
  • A good ecological knowledge including; the ability to assess habitat condition, using past records and survey reports as well as site visits and then to determine the suitability of Glastir management options;
  • A logical approach to organising information;
  • Ability to use, design and create Excel spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of Mapinfo and ability to use corporate GIS datasets;
  • An understanding of NRW’s day-to-day work relating to protected sites;
  • An ability to liaise and negotiate with landowners and  tenants to ensure on-farm improvements are undertaken to deliver positive environmental outcomes;
  • Familiarity with Welsh Government agri-environment schemes and their administration.

Welsh language level required for the post are at Level 1 - The ability to use basic Welsh conversational phrases (e.g. “bore da” – “good morning”) and to pronounce Welsh place names correctly.

Status     

This is a 7 month fixed-term, pensionable full-time appointment to the 31 March 2015. 

The hours may be reduced to suit the post holder to a set amount of hours per week.    

Salary

£20,349.00
