The Treetop café is a small but busy vegetarian café situated in the grounds of the Monkey Sanctuary, near Looe in Cornwall. Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary is a registered charity which cares for rescued monkeys and promotes animal welfare, conservation and sustainable living. 

All profits from the café are given back to the Sanctuary to help further the aims of the Charity. 

The Sanctuary is fully open to the public from the start of April until the end of October.

In line with the ethos of Wild Futures the treetop café looks to lead by example and promotes a sustainable, healthy and cruelty free lifestyle, helping to create a positive future for people, animals and planet. 

The café in the trees is proud to provide deliciously tasty, healthy food that showcases the very best in vegetarian food and drink, specialising in options for vegans. We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly member of staff who is confident working front of house but would also enjoy working in the kitchen during busy times. 

Full training will be provided but previous experience is preferred.

You will be overseen in this job role by Matthew Nott, Catering and Café manager

Main responsibility

  1. Adhere to the “safer food, better business” management system.
  2. To provide a warm welcome and a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable customer service.
  3. Front of house stock ordering, control and storage. Drinks, ice cream, cakes.
  4. To be an active and supportive team member. To work closely with others and maintain a professional approach at all times.
  5. To comply fully with all Health and Safety and Food Hygiene regulations at all times.

 Desirable skills/training/ knowledge 

  1. Good knowledge of the food and drink we serve and sell.
  2. A clear understanding of why the café is vegetarian.
  3. Clear communication with customers, suppliers and other team members.
  4. Clean, tidy and appropriate clothing and hair at all times.
  5. The successful applicant will be required to gain a current Food Hygiene Certificate, this will be arranged by the treetop café.

Primary Roles 

  1. Taking orders and serving customers Front of House.
  2. Ensuring that Front of House areas are clean and tidy. Carry out opening and closing checks. Keep the safer food, better business daily dairy up to date.
  3. Handling money, till operation, cashing-up.
  4. The role may require you to work with the chef, during busy periods, in the preparation, cooking and plating up of food. 
  5. Keeping the café clean and in line with health, hygiene and safety requirements. This may include washing up from time to time.
  6. Ensuring that the café is properly maintained and reporting any damage or breakages to the Café manager.
  7. Organising, training and supervising voluntary helpers.
  8. Organising and undertaking the decoration and maintenance of the Café.
  9. Maintaining good communications with the rest of the Sanctuary team.
  10. Managing the surrounding grounds; herb beds, greenhouse, recycling areas.

Accommodation is not provided with this role but help will be given finding local accommodation (accommodation available within 10minute walk of sanctuary).

Other Responsibilities

To be flexible in your work according to new situations as they arise. Be available for on-site events and offsite catering van roles.

Hours of Work and Pay

The role is paid for 37 hours per week at National Minimum Wage.

8.30am – 5pm.

This position is a seasonal role which runs from Sat. 29th March 2014 until 30th September 2014.

 

Holiday to be booked 1month in advance. No holiday during school holidays.

 

All staff under go a monthly staff review.

Holidays are accrued at 2.5 days per month.
