POSITION TITLE: Fishery Resources Officer GRADE LEVEL: P-3 Inland Fisheries DUTY STATION: Rome ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Marine and Inland Fisheries, FIRF DURATION ∗: Fixed term: 3 years Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Use and Conservation Division, FIR POST CODE/NO: 0505064 Fisheries & Aquaculture Department, FI CCOG CODE: Applications from qualified women as well as from qualified nationals of non-and under-represented member countries are encouraged DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the general supervision of the Service Coordinator, Marine and Inland Fisheries Service, and the direct supervision of the Inland Fishery Team Leader, the incumbent will participate in the formulation and implementation of the programme on sustainable and responsible use of inland fishery resources and associated ecosystems. In particular, will: • Participate in the formulation and promotion of quantitative activities related to the management, development and assessment of inland fisheries, particularly in developing countries; • Analyze the role inland fisheries plays in rural livelihoods, poverty alleviation and food security; • Prepare technical documents, content for web-pages and other material on the above topics; • Provide technical backstopping to field projects and training activities relating to inland fisheries, as required; • Participate in the preparation and review of projects that will provide delivery of expertise and technical support to address issues regarding inland fisheries; • Participate in inter-agency and inter-departmental working groups to deliver the Service’s views on topics relevant to inland fisheries; • Perform other related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Candidates should meet the following: • University Degree in Biological, Fishery or Ecological Sciences which included extensive course work in inland aquatic ecology, quantitative analyses, environmental modeling, limnology, fisheries or closely related subjects • Five years of relevant experience related to the assessment, development and/or management of inland fisheries • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two SELECTION CRITERIA Candidates will be assessed against the following: • Relevance of experience in the assessment, development and/or management of inland fisheries, especially in developing countries • Relevance of academic qualifications • Relevance of publication record • Extent of experience using computer software for quantitative analyses and modeling of inland fisheries and associated ecosystems • Quality of both oral and written communication skills Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. * The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments REMUNERATION A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
