Six technicians are needed (2 positions September 1- December 15, 4 positions November 1-December 15) to conduct sport fishery monitoring and stream survey sampling for fall Chinook salmon in the Hanford Reach area of the Columbia River.

September 1 through October 31, two technicians will monitor the Hanford Reach salmon sport fishery. Travel from WDFW Pasco office to the area boat launches. Technicians will interview anglers to determine catch and harvest, sample harvest for CWT recoveries, and collect biological data on the fish harvested. Data will be used to estimate and manage harvest, determine origin of harvest, and estimate impacts to ESA Listed steelhead.

From November 1 through December 15, technicians will conduct river surveys to sample post-spawn fall chinook in the Hanford Reach. Staff will meet at the WDFW Pasco office, travel to the appropriate site. Staff will conduct surveys by boat and/or foot. Technicians will record length, gender, fin clips, scan fish for coded wire tags, and remove otoliths to determine origin. Data from the river surveys will be used to determine origin and age composition of the return.
