The crew member will be part of a team responsible for developing the California Department of Fish and Game Southern California Coast Steelhead Monitoring Program. The Southern California Coast Steelhead has been listed as endangered under the Federal Endangered Species act. The Crew member will be responsible for daily operation of Dual-Frequency Identification Sonar units (DIDSON). The DIDSONs will be used to count steelhead on their spawning migration into streams located in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. The streams are subject to rapid increases in flow, which require relocation of the monitoring equipment on short notice during any time of the day or night. Crew member will also be responsible for maintaining the equipment. Work will often be performed in cold water and swift currents, and employees may be subject to extended periods of exposure to adverse weather, sun, or other environmental hazards.
