Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) is a global network of 75 organisations campaigning on today's most urgent environmental and social issues. The International Secretariat in Amsterdam is the recipient of a number of international development aid grants, which are funding programs that are partially implemented by its member groups in Asia, Africa and Latin America. We are currently looking for an experienced candidate who will assist the Financial Controller with the financial management of the sub-grants to these groups.

Financial Project Controller (FPC) - 80 %

Job Description

The FPC has an important role in supporting the finance manager with respect to the financial management of FoEI’s international projects and programs. The FPC will be responsible for quality financial reporting on projects and programs in close collaboration with the respective project managers and member group representatives.

The FPC is based at the International Secretariat in Amsterdam and positioned in the Finance Team of FoEI. The FPC reports to the finance manager and has a functional horizontal working relationship with the bookkeeper.

Main responsibilities

  • Review and understand contractual donor requirements; and translate these into requirements in the contract templates for our member groups;
  • Draw up of project contracts, budgets and report formats for member groups;
  • Ensure the timely submission of reports by the member groups;
  • Review financial reports and expense claims from member groups and program staff and ensure that all supporting documents for donor reporting are made available according to donor requirements;
  • Document lessons learnt and opportunities for financial improvement;
  • Communicate findings to member groups;
  • Ensure that all project-related information is (electronically) accessible in our Information Management System;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Information Management System;
  • Other occasional tasks supporting the finance manager.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s level in accounting or business administration or comparable level of skills;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management, preferably in an international NGO context;
  • Fluent in at least English and Dutch, verbally and in writing. Spanish language skills would be an advantage;
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience with Excel;
  • Pro-active, hands-on attitude with strong analytical and reporting skills;
  • Accuracy, capable of setting priorities and multi-tasking;
  • Persistent, with strong communication and negotiation skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Intercultural sensitivity and affinity with FoEI’s vision and mission;
  • Work experience abroad;
  • Knowledge of NGO donors and their financial reporting requirements.

Full time salary between € 2,807 and € 3,082 monthly depending on experience and qualifications.
Contract duration: 6 months initially, to be renewed upon positive performance evaluation.
Participation in collective pension arrangement compulsory.

This post will require a working permit for The Netherlands (granted automatically for EU
citizens), and will require being physically based in the Netherlands.
