Combining the latest science with the traditional knowledge of local communities, these projects work to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve people’s well-being. IUCN Pakistan has been awarded the project ‘Integrated Approach for Education, Capacity Building and Livelihood Development of Coastal Communities in Sindh and in Balochistan Provinces’ under USAID Small Grants and Ambassador Fund Programme. The Project will be implemented by IUCN Pakistan through Country Office – Karachi during the period September 2016 to September 2017. The objectives of the project are to promote integrated coastal management by running an environmental education program in 50 schools through awareness sessions, educational visits and dissemination of posters; Conducting research in the illegal trade of freshwater turtles and recommending measures for addressing the same; Conserving sea turtles by protecting their nests and creating awareness among beach hut watchers; Building capacity of fisher folk in natural resource management; and Promoting mangrove based eco-tourism by constructing required infrastructure, developing an ecotourism operational plan, and capacitating local civil society organization for active involvement in the same. We are searching for self-motivated professionals who have a proven track record of meeting challenges through proactive approaches. JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for implementation of the project activities in the coastal areas of Pakistan under the supervision and guidance of the Environmental Education Expert and the Project Manager – USAID Project. SPECIFIC DUTIES: The incumbent will be responsible for: 1. Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Education Expert, provide technical backstopping, advice and support in implementation of the project activities. 2. Support in local coordination and implementation of capacity building and awareness-raising sessions, events, workshop in local schools and fisher folks under the project. 3. Liaise with local communities/fisher folk and ensure their participation in awareness raising and capacity building workshops/trainings under the project. 4. Undertake mobilization and identification of local communities/fisher folk at the project site for participation in project activities. 5. Maintain regular interaction with the project communities through monthly meetings to generate local support for project implementation. 6. Monitor and liaise with turtle watchers to gather field data for monitoring and reporting of the project activities. 7. Reporting monthly progress of implementation of the project activities in the field. 8. Provide facilitation in local coordination with relevant stakeholders and in making local logistic arrangements for the implementation of the project activities and data collection for monitoring purposes.
