Full-time (salary) with benefits (health/dental insurance, 401K) Compensation: based on experience

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife biology or related field
  • Field experience with shorebird monitoring (identification, nest searching, beach analysis, staking off areas, etc.)
  • Field experience with basic wildlife monitoring techniques (small mammals, herps, freshwater fish, macroinvertebrates) Leadership skills to lead interns and volunteers on your projects.
  • Ability and desire to assist with controlled burning of our properties.

Desired qualifications:

  • Bird banding permit or experience
  • Sea turtle monitoring experience

Job description:

The field biologist position will lead our Shorebird Program (as well as its volunteers and intern) which focuses on Snowy Plovers. They also lead most of the regularly scheduled monitoring projects including small mammals, freshwater fish and macro-invertebrates, gopher tortoises, eagles and vegetation photo plots. The field biologist also assists with frog-call surveys, alligator surveys, the sea turtle program, and various other projects as needed. This person will be responsible for writing reports, permitting, and grant writing for their projects. Some experience with maintaining exhibits (both live and stationary) is desirable since we help maintain our exhibits in the nature center. This is a 40-hour per week position with normal office hours being 8:30 – 5:00 M-F. However, special events and certain monitoring protocols will require some night and weekend work. The candidate must have a positive attitude, the ability to be courteous and professional when dealing with the public, and the drive to complete their tasks accurately and timely. We are a small non-profit organization that has a lot of public outreach and visibility. The candidate must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and be adaptable to sudden changes if needed.
