Description
Greenpeace is looking for an enthusiastic digital reporter to help find and tell compelling stories to support its EU advocacy work.

News and writing will be at the heart of the job, but we also expect you to find innovative ways to promote stories among a specialised EU media and policy audience.

The position will be based in the communications department of the Greenpeace EU policy office in Brussels.

Profile and requirements:

  • You are a digital native who believes in the power of writing and you are a skilled wordsmith, with impeccable English.
  • You can sniff out a good story a mile away and are able to adapt your writing to any online or offline channel for an audience of EU journalists and policymakers.
  • You have a demonstrable ability in writing and promoting stories, ideas and information, across a variety of digital and multimedia platforms.
  • You are not afraid of detail and enjoy making sense out of numbers, scientific data and dry policy language.
  • You are comfortable conducting research and selecting and organising material.
  • You are able to work independently or in close cooperation with policy, campaigns or communications colleagues.
  • You have a high level of initiative and are positive, organised, stress-resilient and able to deliver high quality work on time.
  • You share the core values of Greenpeace and can demonstrate commitment to social change or environmental protection.
  • You have at least two years' experience in writing, journalism, public relations or online communications, and a decent grasp of EU political and environmental issues.
  • A good working knowledge of at least one European Union language besides English is a distinct advantage.
  • Some knowledge of photo/video editing or graphic design, and the ability to communicate ideas through images and graphs, are also an advantage.

Main responsibilities:

  • With the help of policy experts, you will pick out, research and write up promising stories, identifying the right channels and strategies to distribute them.
  • You will produce lively and persuasive communications material - from sharp press releases and articles, to snappy tweets and comprehensive Q&As.
  • You will identify and creatively exploit media/communications opportunities.
  • You will help ensure Greenpeace's reputation for accuracy and hard-hitting communication, making use of your excellent drafting, editing and fact-checking skills.
  • You will work closely with communications and advocacy colleagues, and advise and support them as needed.
  • You will use available tools and data to monitor and analyse the impact of your work.

What we offer:

  • Work within a dynamic, committed and effective international team, and with colleagues across the Greenpeace world.
  • Gain experience in a stimulating news environment and expand your knowledge on a range of environmental and policy issues.
  • Actively contribute to the protection of the environment and to political change in Europe.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Contribution to relocation costs (from outside Belgium).
