English teacher volunteer needed!

We are trying to make a real difference by teaching English to kids and adults in the community of Puerto Jimenez. This town is very important in terms of development since the level of education is quite low compared to other parts of Costa Rica. Most kids who leave high school do not even have a basic level of English. Often teachers do not speak English very well, and they are hopelessly overloaded with kids and work.

As a volunteer on this project you will teach kids in a school, help teachers to teach kids, and teach adults on weekends and evenings. We ask you to help out with lesson planning, and you likely teach your own classes. You should be creative, proactive, and have lots of energy. An ideal volunteer on this project loves to interact with people and is willing to teach others.

This position is available year round for any length of time and does not require previous experience, nor the ability to speak Spanish for this project. Although, a basic level of Spanish would be an advantage, but not necessary! We do require that you speak English fluently and you should be 16 years of age or older. Additionally, you will experience a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives, while having fun, making lots of friends, learning about Costa Rican customs and culture, and gaining invaluable teaching experiences!
