Job Summary:

Our client is a leading environmental consultancy, seeking to appoint an Ecology Consultant to join their team in Wolverhampton.

The successful candidates will have at least one relevant EPS survey licence and experience carrying out ecological surveys. This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive company, providing services to developers, utility companies and the renewable energy industry.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The Ecology Consultant will:

  • Manage and carry out a range of ecological surveys (including extended Phase 1 Habitat surveys and Ecocheck surveys) on small and medium sized projects.
  • Carry out tasks as ecological clerk of works.
  • Undertake desk studies, research, consultations and data management.
  • Write reports from surveys.
  • Liaise with clients and statutory bodies.
  • Write ecological sections of Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Mentor junior ecologists and oversee their work.
  • Draft quotes and tenders and work on sales initiatives.
  • Identify target clients and undertake client meetings both with colleagues and alone.

The position will require flexible working with regard to time and location, with some weekend working necessary as required.

More experienced candidates will also:

  • Manage the delivery of project work on key contracts (managing staff, equipment and time).
  • Instruct and co-ordinate contractors and technical experts.
  • Lead on ecological sections of EIAs.
  • Train junior ecologists and provide support to the Head of Ecology to develop and grow business in the Midlands.

Qualifications / Experience:

The Ecology Consultant will have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject.
  • At least one relevant EPS survey licence.
  • A full driving licence.
  • Full membership of CIEEM or appropriate experience to achieve this.
  • Proven experience in sales and business development.
  • Experience working on ecology contracts for utilities companies.
  • EPS mitigation licences or experience in this area.
