Description

Rushmoor covers the towns of Aldershot and Farnborough in north-east Hampshire, and is at the heart of the prosperous Blackwater Valley sub-region. Aldershot is the home of the British Army and Farnborough is world famous as the birthplace of British aviation and host to the International Airshow.

International companies such as BAE Systems, Nokia, CSC and QinetiQ are based here. The initial stages in the regeneration of both town centres and the expansion of Aldershot with 4,500 new homes on surplus military land are under way. Aldershot has recently been chosen as the location for the British Team Training Camp and headquarters in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. The borough has excellent communications, is served by the M3 motorway and is only 30 minutes from London by train. Farnborough Airport is Europe's premier business aviation centre.

The Council is recognised as good and improving and we have a clear goal to rise to excellent. We are located in modern offices close to Farnborough Town Centre.

ECOLOGY/BIODIVERSITY OFFICER (Planning Policy and Conservation)
Salary: £23,709 to £29,241 per annum
We are looking for a highly motivated person to deliver the Rushmoor Biodiversity Action Plan and promote biodiversity within the Borough. You will be the ecologist / bio-diversity officer in a team of dedicated specialists covering conservation and environmental issues including building conservation, environmental improvements, urban regeneration, landscape and nature conservation, and arboriculture.

One day a week will be spent working in our neighbouring authority Hart District Council, helping to deliver biodiversity priorities within the Borough.

You will also be responsible for the provision of the Councils ecological responses to planning consultations as well as providing advice in regard to the Councils NERC duties in relation to its management of land and buildings.

You will have a qualification in ecology, conservation management or other relevant field and, ideally, some experience of dealing with planning issues. You should have a pragmatic approach to problem solving and be willing to work as part of a team.

The post provides the opportunity to be involved in a diverse range of biodiversity projects both corporately and within the community.
