Heritage Training Bursary Placements

Want to fast-track your career into nature conservation?  Need quality training programme? (90% into employment).    Are you passionate about working in our sector?  Is limited experience restricting your job prospects? - Not anymore!   LEMUR+ offers 9-month full-time and short duration funded bursary placements at leading nature conservation organisations, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.   From the LEMUR project (projectlemur.org) comes LEMUR+ (technology) (projectlemurplus.org).

9-month training placements:

Marine Heritage Education Trainee: Marine Biological Association (Plymouth, Devon)

Marine life short surveys, citizen science projects, engage people with marine environment via technology, BioBlitz survey and cascade knowledge.

Marine Heritage Community Outreach Trainee: Marine Biological Association (Plymouth, Devon)

Young people & the marine environment, supervise marine ranger team, ‘seashore safaris’, evening events, plan & run a BioBlitz, develop a website.

Marine Education Trainee: Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust (Torquay, Devon)

Educational events (for schools), guided walks, family activities, introducing technology, interpretation materials, mini beast hunts, nature play events.

Ecological Survey Trainee: Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (Hereford)

Botanical skills; Ecological Surveys (e.g. Phase 1, 2); Condition Assessments; Landowner Liaison; GIS/GPS; Bioblitz; field digital technology research/testing

Ecological Survey trainee: Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) (Monmouth/Herefordshire)

Species Id.; Wildlife surveys (Phase 1, Water Vole/Mink Surveys); Landowner Liaison; Bioblitz; GIS, field digital technology research/testing; Educational event delivery.

Biodiversity Information Management Trainee: SEWBReC - South East Wales Biodiversity Records Centre (Cardiff, Wales)

Database & GIS input & reporting, biological survey & technology, plan & organise a BioBlitz

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and Wye Valley AONB 3-month training placements:

Ecological Survey Trainees (x2): Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (Hereford)

Botanical skills; Ecological Surveys (e.g. Phase 1, 2); Condition Assessments; Landowner Liaison; GIS/GPS; Bioblitz; field digital technology research/testing

Ecological Survey Trainee: (x1):  Wye Valley AONB (Monmouth/Herefordshire)

Species Id.; Wildlife surveys (Phase 1, Water Vole/Mink Surveys); GIS; Landowner Liaison; Bioblitz; field digital technology research/testing;

Marine Biological Association Part-time (across 5-months) training placements

Marine Heritage Community Outreach Trainee (x3): Marine Biological Association (Plymouth, Devon)

P/t over 7-months (April-October), marine wildlife & family engagement, ‘environmental play’ sessions, school and evening engagement events, Beach Rangers, BioBlitz

Apply for short duration placements (part-time/full-time options available): Please provide up to 100 words on why we should consider you for your chosen placement.  Please state which placement you are interested in and if you have proof of eligibility to work in the UK (i.e. UK driving license/Passport).  Closing date: Noon Friday 16th January 2015.     Email your response to info@ambios.net  If you are successful then on 9 February we will email you a short list of questions to be completed and returned to us by 27 February. 

Full details about each placement along with an application form (9-month only) are available for download from www.projectlemurplus.org from 15 December 2015.  If unable to download send an A4 Self Addressed Envelope (with £1.60 postage on it) to Ambios Ltd, Crediton, Devon EX17 1DJ.  Deadline for applications: Noon Friday 16th January 2015.
