The purpose of the role is the delivery of strategic and technical leadership across multiple industrial product markets. It requires understanding the characteristics that drive product energy efficiency, product markets and impacts of policy and standards.

The scope of the role includes leading and delivering research projects focused upon assessing energy efficiency characteristics of products and related product market characteristics, for example analysing the viability of existing ETL interventions, or assessment of opportunities for new ETL interventions.  Technology Mangers will lead the stakeholder engagement (e.g. with manufacturers and trade bodies) for their technology areas to enhance engagement of stakeholders with the Carbon Trust and the ECA scheme. They will also advise on product testing, and oversee and provide QA for a team of technical specialists who carry out product application assessments and assist with the research activities.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role are:

  • Identify and develop strategic priorities for technology research (continued or new), product testing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Undertake research projects across full research cycle (e.g. research specification, desk reviews, stakeholder liaison, research delivery, preparation of deliverables (eg slide packs, carbon accounts), research close-out)
  • Lead engagements with key stakeholders, including trade bodies, manufacturers and suppliers to acquire up-to-date insight and data that informs development of the ECA scheme and other interventions, and encourage manufacturers to make applications for eligible products
  • Assessment of new technology proposals and product applications. Plan and lead product testing to assure the Energy Technology Product List only includes products which meet the ECA scheme requirements.
  • Manage approved Technical Specialists as necessary to obtain specified technical information or assess product applications, and assure the quality of their work
  • Proactively promote the ECA scheme (for example presenting at events, identifying news stories and creating case studies)
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the technology, market conditions, constraints and stakeholder sensitivities regarding current interventions. Model, analyse and interpret data to identify carbon trends and determine the confidence with which these can be used to support interventions
  • Critically assess technical and market information to establish logical and robust evidence for new interventions / updates to existing interventions
  • Ownership of the ECA scheme carbon accounts, criteria, thresholds, and claim values for assigned technologies.
  • Support the enquiry line advisers with answering detailed or technical enquiries (for example regarding applications)
  • Report progress and present reports/evidence base as required
