The Odonata - Dragonflies and Damselflies - are an ancient group of insects that flew in a giant form before dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Today they provide identification challenges to the naturalist and beauty to the photographer. This course will give a thorough grounding in dragonflies and damselflies, concentrating on the wide range of species that occur in South Devon. Indoor and field sessions will cover dragonfly biology, the identification of adults and larvae, conservation and habitat requirements. Some of the most important dragonfly sites in the south-west will be visited, providing opportunities to see, weather permitting, more than 20 different species.
