10/08/14
This extensive day and evening course will cover the biology of bats and their environmental requirements in general, but particularly to British bat species; it assumes no previous knowledge of bats. The course will include the classification and nomenclature of British bats and their identification in the hand and by echo-location. It will provide a foundation for anyone wanting to satisfy an interest, to become more involved in bat conservation or train for a Roost Visitors’ licence. The evening session will feature a walk at a local lake, using bat detectors to find and identify bats in flight. A limited number of bat detectors will be available for loan but it would be helpful if you have access to a detector to bring one with you.
This bat course runs from 11.00 to 22.30, includes a free FSC guide A Guide to British Bats plus evening meal at a local pub.
Please bring a packed lunch and as transport is required to field site car pooling will be arranged on the day.
