Nature Conservancy of Canada, Quebec Region (NCC), non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure the protection and management of natural life which are important for biodiversity, is seeking a experienced person to fill the position of assistant director for conservation for western Quebec.

Job Description

The deputy director of conservation, west of Quebec is responsible for overseeing the activities of acquisition and stewardship of land held by the management of conservation in the western portion of Quebec (Outaouais, Laurentides, Montérégie and Eastern Townships). These regions currently include about 200 properties which protected more than a dozen properties are added each year. The Deputy Director will be mandated Senior management project managers registrants to natural areas under its responsibility, strategic planning activities on an annual and five-year management and administrative activities. Maintaining balance sheets balanced by tracking expenses and the realization of income is an important responsibility.

In close collaboration with members of the management team, the Assistant Director helps define the vision and broad guidelines for CNC to strengthen the leadership of the organization for the protection and long-term management of the natural environment Quebec. In addition, he participated in the development and implementation of procedures and be responsible for the production of management reports to the director of conservation.

The deputy director of conservation, western Quebec must support the core mission of TNC is to protect biodiversity.Therefore it provides assistance to all other sectors and departments of the organization, a region of Quebec or elsewhere in Canada. The Deputy Director is based in the office of NCC in Montreal.

Disclaimer

  • Supervise more than 5 professional and technical employees (task allocation, development of work plan, performance monitoring) and management of human resources (hiring, performance appraisal, conflict management);
  • Budget planning and monitoring administrative (resource allocation, track billing, quarterly results and annual planning of revenues and expenditures);
  • Establish regional targets for conservation and management of properties in conjunction with the CNC team and local stakeholders;
  • Implement policies and procedures in place to ensure compliance of projects on its territory and communicate with other branches and national office in respect of processes and records confidential;
  • Provide the revenues necessary to carry out the activities under his leadership, including preparation of funding applications and solicitation of public funders, foundations and private donors;
  • Conduct outreach activities with public and private partners.

Skills and Requirements

  • Hold at least five years experience in relevant conservation or management of natural environments, including three years managing staff and projects;
    • Knowledge of the principles of conservation and management of natural and legal parameters and related legislative
    • Knowledge of the conservation community and its network of partners
  • Skills in budget planning, strategic and organizational as well as project management;
    • Experience in budget management, balance sheet and income and expenditure tracking
    • Computer skills (Windows environment) relevant to its function
  • Leadership, ability to manage human resources, maintain a good team spirit and motivate employees;
    • Bilingual, good communicator with excellent writing skills, in both French and English
    • Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment evolving
  • University degree in biology, geography, forestry or related field combined with the conservation and management of natural environments;
    • Training or specific experience in project management, personnel management and / or trading an asset
  • Available for travel in areas of record and flexibility with respect to schedule
