Oceana’s e-activism team is seeking a digital media intern for our marketing and communications team in our Washington, DC office. This internship will involve all aspects of digital communications, emphasizing the technical skills most in demand today. Join us and learn best practices for online communication, analytics, activism and fundraising while playing a part in protecting the world’s oceans. This is a paid internship with an expectation of at least 20 hours per week at Oceana’s headquarters in Dupont Circle.

OCEANA, an international organization focused solely on protecting the world’s oceans, is dedicated to achieving concrete in-the-water improvements in ocean health through science-based campaigns with clearly articulated goals. Our campaigns are led by teams of scientists, economists, lawyers, communications specialists and advocates.

Working closely with the digital media manager, you will be involved in:

  • Reporting on and analyzing data as it pertains to web and marketing campaign performance
  • Creating and maintaining website and action pages through a content management system and static HTML/CSS
  • Optimizing landing pages, online action templates and email templates
  • Other related tasks

The successful candidate will possess attributes including:

  • Desire to make Oceana’s online presence as successful as possible
  • Proactive approach to learning, challenging yourself, and gaining real-world experience
  • Curiosity for web statistics and how they translate to successful marketing and online activism campaigns
  • Strong skills in HTML and CSS
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with a web CMS (content management system)

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with Google Analytics
  • Knowledge of MySQL
  • Familiarity with JavaScript
  • Experience creating graphics using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator

This is a three month position with possibility of extension. Oceana accepts interns who receive academic credit for their internship. Undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
