Course: DIY Small Thermal Mass “Kachelofen” Stove

A 6 days DIY course combining theory and practice, designing and installing a small, self-build, energy-efficient thermal mass stove. During this course we’ll be learning about Kachelofen design. Starting from an existing metal stove we’ll learn how to build a labyrinth to make it more efficient. Also we’ll learn how to build the fire chamber with fire breaks. This small version is ideal for rooms, dormitories… and would be a base to build a bigger one to heat a whole house. During the course we aim to cover:

-how thermal mass / kachelofen stoves works – principles
-the thermal mass
-materials and uses
-system components: fire chamber, labyrinth, exhaust pipe..
-diferent uses: oven for food, water heat, air heat, hot benches…
-study of the needs of the houses
-stove tour; seeing and comparing different stoves and systems
-fire and combustion
-maintenance and cleaning

Booking conditions

The course will be run in English and Spanish. In addition to learning lots of new thingsyou will also be part of a low impact community in the beautiful surroundings of Los Molinos del Rio de Aguas in Southern Spain.

-Refunds up to two weeks prior to course (minus 30 euro admin fee).
-No refunds for cancellations within two weeks of course.
-If there’s not a minimum of bookings, course will canceled and refunds will be 100%.
