Job Summary:

Our client is a multi-disciplinary consultancy, looking to appoint a Consultant Ecologist to join their successful ecology team in Newcastle.

The successful candidate will be a committed ecologist with experience of Phase 1, bat and great crested newt surveys. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a career in ecology and manage a range of high profile ecological projects.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The Consultant Ecologist will:

  • Form an integrated part of the Newcastle and UK ecology teams.
  • Be responsible for ecological projects and contribute to project management.
  • Input to fee proposals and track project costs.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders.
  • Undertake ecology surveys.

Qualifications / Experience:

The Consultant Ecologist will have:

  • A relevant degree.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body or the ability to apply.
  • Excellent field skills across a range of taxa (including Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species habitat assessments, great crested newt, reptile, water vole and otter surveys).
  • A sound knowledge of UK and European legislation and policy.
  • The desire to develop professionally in a chosen field.
  • Project management and client management experience.
  • A full driving licence.
  • Specialist skills in areas such as GIS, bat sound analysis, ornithology, botany, invertebrate and protected species mitigation (or the desire to develop these skills).
  • Natural England development or EPS licence holder.
  • Experience creating mitigation method statements.
  • Business development skills.
