Job Summary:

An exciting prospect exists for a committed ecologist to join a successful and growing ecology team where you will work alongside experienced and talented consultants on high profile and exciting multidisciplinary projects.  Our client promotes internal progression and provides managerial as well as technical training to allow each ecologist to develop along a personalised career path.  

Role purpose:

As a Consultant Ecologist you will hit the ground running with Phase 1, bat and great crested newt surveys and get involved in all project stages across a large variety of sectors and clients.

As well as working closely with external and internal multidisciplinary project teams, you will be fully integrated with our client’s ecology teams throughout the UK, supporting each other to deliver proposals, surveys, reports and plans to a high professional standard. 

Responsibilities:

The Ecological Consultant will:

  • Report to the Associate Ecologist for the North
  • Become an integrated member of our client’s Manchester and UK ecology teams
  • Manage ecology projects including providing input to fee proposals, reviewing reports and tracking project costs
  • Communicate with clients and other stakeholders
  • Complete ecology surveys and proactive interpretation.  

Qualifications / Experience:

The Ecological Consultant will have;

  • Sound field skills covering a range of taxa including Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species habitat assessments, great crested newt, reptile, water vole and otter surveys.
  • Good knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation, policy and guidance.
  • Experience of working in teams and independently with a proactive approach to progressing schemes.
  • Desire to build on experience in chosen field plus ambition to develop professionally as an ecological consultant.
  • Ability to communicate on appropriate technical and commercial levels internally and to a diverse range of current and potential clients.
  • Good client management, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good team working and project management skills.
  • Eye for detail to assist in report reviews.
  • Good IT skills including MS Word and Excel.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Relevant degree as a minimum.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. IEEM) or ability to apply.
