Description

Are you looking for a career in conservation?  Then the RSPB        can help you get started!  We’ve got a variety of volunteer internship placements on our reserves across the UK. We will provide you with a high quality training programme, ongoing mentoring and lots of practical experience.

In Eastern England we’re recruiting for two warden interns, who will each spend a year helping at Titchwell and Frampton (six months at each). You will get involved in all aspects of reserve work and lots more!

In Northern England we’re recruiting for six warden interns and four visitor and promotions interns, who will each spend either six months on one reserve, or a year helping on two different reserves.  The reserves are Leighton Moss, Coombes Valley, Blacktoft Sands, Aire Valley (Fairburn Ings and St. Aidan’s) and Old Moor. You’ll get to work closely with our reserve staff and help out across different teams.

In Wales we have four residential volunteer internships who will spend a year between two of our Welsh reserves, based at Lake Vyrnwy and Ynys-hir reserves. A chance to get involved in all aspects of reserve life including some behind the scenes areas.

In South East England we will have five residential interns, based at Dungeness and North Kent Marshes, staying either a year spread over both locations or one year at North Kent Marshes. This is a top opportunity to get some great experience in the life of an RSPB reserve during the year.

You’ll need a serious interest in wildlife and conservation, commitment and a desire to learn and develop. Applicants need to prove they are flexible, have lots of initiative, are team workers and have good communication skills, in order to take on the wide variety of tasks.  If you are applying for the practical internships then you will need to be able to undertake strenuous physical activities e.g. fence post removal. A full driving licence is essential
