Description

Conservation Volunteer

The Ecology and conservation department on Fregate Island Private are currently looking to fill volunteer positions for the upcoming season April - October.

Volunteers will gain valuable experience with Seabird cencus techniques, monitoring and territory mapping for the critically endangered Seychelles magpie robin, sampling Caecilians for Chytrid, and marine monitoring projects. Data entry will also form a significant part of volunteer duties.

We expect volunteers to be willing to take part in a variety of conservation projects on the island including enclosure maintenance, tree nursery upkeep, plant propagation, habitat restoration and invasive bird control.

It is also important to note that Fregate is primarily run as a luxury hotel so guest interactions will be an inevitable part of life on the Island with nature walks and guest activities forming part of a volunteer’s responsibility.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum BSc in environmental science, zoology, botany or similarly related field. Note we will consider candidates that do not possess a BSc put who have other relevant experience in nature
  • PADI open water certification is an advantage but not a necessity
  • Data entry and analysis experience
  • Friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic people, passionate about nature and conservation
  • Excellent work ethic, communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working in remote locations with different cultures and sharing accommodation with others
  • Must be able to stay for the 6 month duration of the season

What we provide

  • We will take care of entry visa and work permit
  • Transfers from Mahe to Fregate are provided
  • You will be provided with 3 meals per day in the staff canteen
  • Shared accommodation is included with linen and towels provided
  • T-shirts
  • We also provide a small monthly stipend to be spent in the staff shop

Unfortunately we are not in a position to provide airfare from country of origin to the Seychelles for volunteers. A complete medical will be required at the cost of the volunteer for the visa application

Applicants should send a cover letter and a recent copy of their CV with references to ecofregate@gmail.com

Please include the reference “Conservation Volunteer” in the subject line.

The deadline for applications is Friday 12th of February, 2016
