Conservation Department Assistant

Job description

BirdLife International is a world-wide network of non-governmental conservation organizations represented in over 115 countries, and with a combined public membership of over 2.5 million people. The BirdLife mission is to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity, working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources. The Partnership is coordinated by the BirdLife International Secretariat which has its global headquarters in Cambridge (UK).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive Assistant within the Conservation Department. The Conservation Department is a team of people working on a diverse range of conservation projects, each fulfilling a variety of tasks and travelling frequently. This new member of the team will be an important focal point for the department; using their excellent organizational skills and providing administrative support to assist with the successful functioning of the team. 

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Organizing travel arrangements; including visas, booking flights and accommodation.
• Organising meetings and taking minutes.
• Managing email correspondence and taking phone calls.
• Preparing/editing PowerPoint presentations as required.
• Preparing/editing emails and Word documents as required.
• Inputting of data and maintaining documents.  
• Filing paperwork and keeping folders up-to-date.
• Preparing expenses reports and necessary documentation.
• Raising invoices and processing payment requests.
• Assisting with compiling and reviewing finance reports.

The required qualifications and skills are:

• Good general education to Degree level or equivalent
• Secretarial/admin experience 
• High motivation, desire to achieve
• Excellent organisational skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work to high standards with tight deadlines
• Ability deal with multiple tasks and work independently

Location: BirdLife International Secretariat, Cambridge

Duration: 2 year contract with a possibility of extension

Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week

Closing date: Sunday 9th February 2014

Salary: £19,000 - £22,000 per annum dependent on experience.  Competitive pension benefits.
