Description

The Wilderness Society is an independent environmental advocacy organisation supported by around 30,000 members. We are now training a new generation of environmental leaders with our sophisticated community organising program. The work we do leverages our strong base to build a mass movement for climate action and nature conservation in Australia. Since 1976, we've stood at the forefront of the country's most historic campaigns, including the Franklin River, Fraser Island, Tasmanian Forests, James Price Point in the Kimberley and numerous World Heritage Areas. Australia's natural environment is its great advantage, The Wilderness Society exists to protect it.

The Position

The purpose of The Wilderness Society's Community Organising program, 'Movement For Life', is to build a grassroots movement and the people power required to deliver our vision.

The Community Organiser role is focussed on building a bigger and more diverse movement for nature protection and climate action. The role involves recruiting and retaining volunteers, developing and training community leaders, and engaging target communities in meaningful dialogue and action.

The role will work on broad cross-organisational building efforts, as well as on specific campaigns for The Wilderness Society.

Note: This position will often require work outside of standard 9-5 business hours.

Application Process

To apply please click on Apply Now. Applicants are required to provide a cover letter, CV and a 1 page document addressing the below targeted questions;

Question 1: Detail an organising program you've been involved with and your role within it.
