Description

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s Centre for Sustainable Transport, is seeking a Communications Manager for its India Programme. This position is based in Mumbai, and reports to the Strategy Head – Institutional Development.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to bringing innovative communications tools and practices to EMBARQ India; facilitating knowledge-sharing, internal communication across the EMBARQ Network; raising the profile of EMBARQ among existing and potential partners and donors; and increasing awareness about sustainable transport and urban planning issues by delivering strategic messages to target audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
In keeping with EMBARQ India’s communications strategy, elevate the organization’s brand by producing and managing high-quality print and digital communications

  • Manage, maintain, and improve the organisation’s websites, including EMBARQIndia.org, WRI-India.org, and others.
  • Provide editorial oversight, write, and recruit regular writers for TheCityFix
  • Manage and implement a social media strategy, using EMBARQ India’s existing accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Vimeo, LinkedIn and other tools
  • Work closely with media outlets to promote EMBARQ India's work and other related projects
  • Use communications, marketing, and strategic dissemination of information to promote sustainable mobility
  • Manage the implementation and use of EMBARQ Network knowledge sharing tools, systems, and software for effective and efficient internal and cross-network communication
  • Help manage events that EMBARQ India hosts or participates in
  • Create annual work plans for communications and marketing team
  • Manage budget for communications and marketing team
  • Coordinate activities with EMBARQ’s global team so that they are aligned with global EMBARQ Network strategy
  • Actively participate and collaborate with communications teams in other centres in the EMBARQ Network

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in communications, media, journalism or any other related field
  • 7+ years of post-Masters experience in a similar position
  • Availability and willingness to travel frequently
  • A proven track record of delivering outcomes
  • Strong writing skills for Indian and international audiences
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to distill complex ideas into simple and accurate messages
  • Comfortable with engaging at public events and meetings
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, global workplace
  • Experience with news media, creative direction, social media, print design, branding, public relations, new media, online communications, video, public events, and web development.
  • Relationships with journalists at key Indian media outlets
  • Highly motivated, able to take initiative, and lead multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Extremely creative and innovative
  • Adaptable and flexible to shifting opportunities, priorities and needs
  • Interest in sustainable transport, urban development, and environmental issues
  • International experience, a plus
