| | This position (Scientist / Engineer, Level II) reports to the Director of the Atmospheric Science & Global Change Division within the Fundamental & Computational Sciences Directorate. Our mission is to understand the fundamental science of earth system processes and human systems at decade-to-century scales. Integrated teams deliver insights on the dynamic interactions between climate systems and impacts, with a focus on delivering decision-relevant insights and understanding. Our technical groups address the following scientific focus areas: atmospheric processes that drive regional and global earth systems, with a primary focus on climate, aerosol and cloud physics; global and regional scale modeling; integrated assessment; and complex regional meteorology and chemistry. We conduct our work through an integrated approach that includes theory, experiments/observations and modeling, and implications for decision-makers.
We are seeking an individual with strong analytic skills in energy and environmental systems to provide technical leadership and insight for understanding the interactions between climate and energy systems and the implications for policy decisions on climate change. This position will have a major responsibility for understanding and evaluating the emerging science in climate change, including reviews and synthesis of the products of the US Global Change Research Program (formerly the Climate Change Science Program) and of the National Academy of Science. This position will also be responsible for conducting a variety of science, technology and market assessments, and will participate in the development and implementation of a new research program in climate change and integrated assessment. This individual will also participate in interactions designed to better integrate our physical and social science/policy capabilities, which will require some travel to the Joint Global Change Research Institute located in College Park, MD. This position will provide an opportunity to participate in developing products for strategic business planning and strategic partnerships for the Division, and participate in related laboratory activities in developing and implementing new research initiatives or programs.
