Description

BACKGROUND:

The Environmental Investment Organisation (EIO), a British-based not-for-profit organisation, researches, promotes and implements investment systems designed to incentivise the world’s largest companies to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. Through the Environmental Tracking concept, the EIO has developed a ‘market mechanism’ capable of incentivising the world’s largest companies to lower their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve levels of transparency, providing a vital tool for society in the fight against climate change.

In 2011 the EIO held the world’s largest 1,300 companies to account over their GHG emissions through the launch of its global set of fully transparent and publicly available ET Carbon Rankings with the next set of Rankings to be launched in February 2013.

The Rankings received international media attention and have already begun encouraging companies to make their emissions data public. They also lay the foundations for the subsequent stage of the project, which will see the rankings translated into a series of financial indexes, these are designed to offer the investment community a mainstream investment product capable of applying pressure to company share price in line with emissions and transparency.

ROLE:

This role involves assisting the EIO team in collecting relevant greenhouse gas emissions data from global companies, analysing the information, drawing conclusions and categorising companies according to the ET Carbon Ranking methodology. Anyone undertaking this role would leave as an expert in GHG emissions reporting.

Since 2011 the EIO has pioneered an ‘open source’ style model for compiling the ET Carbon Rankings using various innovative online collaborating techniques in order not to be restrained by volunteers’ geographical location and bridge resource gaps. Candidates will have the responsibility of auditing the EIO’s carbon data analysis in advance of the official publication of the next set of ET Carbon Rankings.

This role will also involve participating in compiling and writing the accompanying Carbon Ranking reports which analyse the state of emissions across the world’s largest companies.
(Last year’s reports can be viewed here:http://www.eio.org.uk/etindex.php?page=current_ranking_reports)

The EIO will also be embarking on a media campaign to publicise the Rankings closer to their launch should candidates be interested in gaining further communications experience.
