Job Description

The Carbon Portfolio Manager/Trader shall manage CNG’s carbon offset portfolio in line with companies overall strategic goals. Managing the portfolio encompasses defining key carbon offset project procurement criteria, identifying and procuring carbon offset projects, negotiating commercial and legal terms with project vendors, identifying and mitigating delivery and reputational risk factors, structuring financial investments, communicating strategy and results to the Management Team.

In addition, scanning the market actively for opportunities to sell carbon offsets and GoO to wholesale customers and identifying opportunities to participate in national and international carbon offset tenders will be required.

The role requires the use of exceptional planning, modeling and analysis skills to effectively manage the carbon offset portfolio. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are needed to shape the portfolio strategy and to forge strategic relationships in the industry.

Main responsibilities

• Conduct carbon offset portfolio modelling and analysis
• Identify, analyze and procure carbon offset projects and GoO
• Negotiate commercial and legal terms with project vendors
• Identify and manage carbon offset project commitments and financial risks
• Ensure internal systems are in place to manage the portfolio effectively
• Regularly report and advise the Management Team on the portfolio status and strategy
• Stay abreast of carbon market developments

Other Responsibilities

• Actively participate as an executive member in the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance
• Structure carbon offset sales to wholesale customers
• Actively participate in national and international carbon offset tenders
• Conduct carbon offset project due diligence

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Business/Finance/Environmental Services or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred qualifications

• Master degree in Business/Finance/Environmental Services or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of relevant experience in portfolio management and/or project management and/or trading.
• Experience with procurement and contractual negotiations.
• Highly professional, entrepreneurial, independent, and good at negotiating.
• Excellent problem solving, analytical, trading and organizational skills.

The Carbon Portfolio Manager/Trader role is for 32-40 hours a week and based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. CNG offers a competitive salary and a pension plan.
