Description

Want to do something about climate change? Interested in learning more about greenhouse gas emissions reporting and accounting? Looking to gain experience in this exciting arena and join an exciting global network? Then this could be for you.

Core focus: being part of a team of analysts collating corporate emissions data to produce the 2014 ET Carbon Rankings. Last year’s rankings can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/ET_Carbon_Rankings.

Since 2010 the EIO has been producing an annual set of public Environmental Tracking Carbon Rankings, scoring the world’s largest listed companies by their greenhouse gas emissions and levels of transparency.

Each year the global EIO volunteer network has come together to compile the rankings using various innovative online collaborating techniques in order not to be constrained by geographical location.

Analysts will have responsibility for analysing corporate emissions data, scrutinising independent audit statements, drawing conclusions and categorising companies according to the ET Carbon Ranking methodology. Anyone undertaking this role will leave as an expert in GHG emissions reporting, and those committing to a minimum of 2 months will be awarded a certificate from the EIO.

The EIO employs a stringent internal audit system which will also form a key part of the process. This will entail the most recent data, verifying information that has been recorded, checking for errors and assessing conclusions that have been made, all within the framework of the ET Carbon Ranking methodology.

The placement also offers the opportunity to participate in the research and analysis behind the accompanying Carbon Ranking reports, analysing the state of emissions across the world’s largest companies.

Suggested experience/degree subjects:

-Degrees: Maths, Sciences, Economics, Finance, Social Sciences, Environmental Policy related subjects, although others considered;

-Experience: Audit, Accountancy, Finance, Research and Data Analysis preferred, but not mandatory.

-Suggested contribution 10 hours per week, although ideally more;

-Able to commute daily into London (Imperial College, South Kensington) or capable of working independently from home;

-Fantastic experience within a dynamic and enterprising team;
