Brisbane based, part-time 4-days per week, annual salary rate $52,000 pro-rata for 4 days a week + 9% superannuation.

Are you seeking to join a dynamic and successful campaign team? The Wilderness Society (TWS) is Australia's leading community based environmental advocacy organisation dedicated to the protection, promotion and restoration of wilderness and natural processes throughout Australia.

The Wilderness Society in Queensland (TWSQ) is looking for a skilled environmental campaigner who can undertake a leadership role in the coordination, planning, development and implementation of the Cape York World Heritage Campaign. The successful applicant will be skilled in a range of campaign activities including policy development, diverse community and political engagement, communications including media as well as networking and alliance building.

In addition to the primary functions and responsibilities identified above, all campaigners contribute to the further organisational development and growth of TWSQ, including future campaigns development, participation in fundraising events, partnerships with other TWS groups, and involvement with other campaign issues as required.

Whilst the position is funded for 4 days per week in the 2009-10 financial year, funding for the role may increase it to full-time in 2010-11.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to the protection of the natural environment
  • Demonstrated skills and capacity in campaign advocacy and leadership
  • Previous experience in implementing public outreach campaigns
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to engage with the media
  • Proven research and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship-building skills in multi-cultural settings
  • Ability to systematically plan and organise projects and events
  • Well developed time and stress management skills
  • Knowledge of Indigenous rights and interests in the Australian context and in relation to contemporary conservation

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Ability to work independently and in small teams
  • Previous experience in managing volunteers
  • Creative and innovative approaches to problem solving
  • Publications, web and electronic media development experience or skills
  • Adaptability and responsiveness to changing opportunities and circumstances
  • Familiarity with, or previous experience working for, non government organizations
  • Tertiary qualifications in the fields of environmental sciences or social sciences
