Description

Voted the “Coolest Little Startup in America” by Inc Magazine, TerraCycle’s mission is to eliminate the idea of waste by developing innovative solutions for non-recyclable products and packaging. Our model provides consumers and communities with a system to collect their waste and then convert this waste into new, eco-friendly products. We also give back to the community by paying an average of 2¢ per unit of waste collected to charity on behalf of the collectors. TerraCycle currently partners with over 70 brands of the world’s largest consumer conglomerates including: Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oreal, BiC and Kraft in 12 countries including the US, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Israel, France, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Turkey and the UK. Come work for the company that received Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2010 award for #1 company in the environmental category and has been named a UN 2012 Leader of Change.

If you are an undergraduate, MBA/graduate student or a recent graduate with a strong interest in green business, eco-capitalism, upcycling, recycling or social entrepreneurship, TerraCycle offers a unique opportunity for incredible growth, and innovative work. We are looking for people who are dependable, enthusiastic, and professional to join us.

Business Development Intern:

Spend your summer developing business opportunities for TerraCycle in the US. As a member of the Business Development team, you will work closely with TerraCycle’s CEO, CAO, VP of Legal, and VP of Global Business Development to forge partnerships with Fortune 500 companies, innovative green start-ups, and some of the largest brands in the world. Interns will be taught how to strategically research deal opportunities, pitch business ideas, create effective proposals, manage business development databases, and interact with potential business partners.

Business Development Intern Roles & Responsibilities:

Keystone Project: TerraCycle believes that well-designed and well-structured internships are a valuable way to expose talented and interested individuals to a new organization and to new areas of work, while also providing high caliber project work. The focus of the internship will be a Keystone Project, which the intern leads and concludes during the duration of the internship. The Keystone Project is designed to directly contribute to one of TerraCycle’s work areas so that the intern gains real experience and know-how through substantial, mission-driven work. In addition to this project, the intern will be responsible for carrying out daily activities as required.

Business Development Team Support: Interns will be treated as co-workers in their support of the Business Development team. This support can take multiple forms, including, but not limited to, drafting presentations, performing research on potential partners, identifying areas of opportunity, correspondence support, and being involved in the pitch to prospective clients. Interns will be given responsibility as commiserate with their level of motivation, enthusiasm, work ethic, and performance.

Supervision and Feedback: During the internship, the intern will have a weekly check in meeting with his or her supervisor in order to review recent and upcoming work. As well, the supervisor and the intern will have a mid-internship feedback meeting and an end of internship evaluation meeting to review goals and discuss challenges and successes.

Learning Coffees: An enriching component of the internship is the series of Learning Coffees. During these Coffees, interns will learn about the work of the different TerraCycle departments and international offices. Experts who compose TerraCycle’s team of department and country heads will lead these weekly Coffees, which will be conducted in person or by conference call and will include all TerraCycle interns in our offices. Topics may include business development, account management, design, logistics, public relations, and material manipulation. In addition, there will be an opening session on the TerraCycle mission and a closing session to thank the interns for their valuable work.

Nuts and Bolts: The preferred duration of an internship is June 3rd- August 2nd, and interns are expected to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week. The exact dates and work hours will be jointly confirmed by the intern and supervisor once an internship offer is made. Interns will be asked to bring their own laptop computer to the office, but printing facilities and general office supplies will be provided. In addition, all interns will receive free lunch during the days they are working. The internship takes place at TerraCycle’s global headquarters in Trenton, NJ.

Application and Selection Process: Candidates should be entrepreneurial, self-motivated, team players, possess good written and oral communication skills, have demonstrated initiative and a capacity to follow through, creative idea generators and most importantly have a hunger for business development and the mission to Outsmart Waste™.

Please send in your resume, cover letter indicating what excites you about TerraCycle’s business development department and a short writing sample to: bdt@terracycle.net.
