Description

We are currently looking for a Bioacoustic Analyst to join our Ecosystems team. In this role, you will be required to process and analyse acoustic and environmental data within the Mesopelagic Southern Ocean Prey and Predators (MESOPP) project. To be successful, you must have knowledge of acoustics and/or micronekton/higher predators, experience of handling large datasets and strong computing skills using Matlab, Python, R or similar. Excellent interpersonal skills is essential as you will be working within a wider team.

Purpose

To undertake research related to the BAS component of the EU Horizon 2020 project MESOPP MEsopelagic Southern Ocean Prey and Predators:
- Archive, process and database acoustic data
- Contribute to report detailing current acoustic data and methods for micronekton research
- Collate and process environmental data pertaining to acoustic transects
- Analyse acoustic and environmental data pertaining to acoustic transects
- Disseminate results appropriately e.g. CCAMLR papers, public engagement events and in peer-reviewed literature

Quafilication

PhD (or equivalent) in Numerate Environmental or Oceanographic science area or Fisheries Acoustics.

Duties

- Archive and process bioacoustic data
- Collate and process environmental data (e.g. satellite products and ship-based products) from repeated acoustic transect regions
- Analyse acoustic and environmental data to investigate micronekton distribution
- Attend MESOPP meetings (remotely and/or present) and contribute to MESOPP deliverables including document of acoustic standards and protocols for processing
- Lead and/or contribute to MESOPP relevant peer-reviewed literature and white-papers
- Work with BAS MESOPP PI to complete objectives pertaining to bioacoustic datasets
