cbec eco-engineering UK  is looking to hire an Assistant Modeller to support our Senior Modeller with an ongoing project on an initial three-month fixed-term contract with the intention of becoming a permanent position. The successful candidate will have experience in 1D river modelling (e.g. using ISIS or HEC-RAS), as well as demonstrable experience in 2D (depth averaged) unsteady hydraulic modelling of rivers, including creation of model meshes, setting of boundary conditions, using field measurements and site photographs to set roughness zones, sensitivity analyses and model calibration. Other essential criteria include experience in post-processing model outputs using GIS tools or similar to provide maps of water depth, velocity and bed shear, and some experience of technical report writing.

Familiarity with the Mike21 suite of hydraulic modelling software, along with scripting using Python/ PythonXY or MATLAB, is desirable but not essential. Alternatively, familiarity with TUFLOW, Infoworks RS 2D or the IRIC suite of river software is desirable. Other preferred secondary skills include experience of modelling for flood risk for either SEPA or the EA, and the requirements of both bodies for FRA, as well as modelling/ assessing large woody debris and engineered log jams for river restoration.

Education to at least post-graduate Masters-level in engineering, water engineering/ fluid mechanics, physical geography, geomorphology or related disciplines is essential.

A Glasgow base is preferred (with a mix of office, site work and home working), but this is secondary to finding the ideal candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Please submit your CV and cover letter to info@cbecoeng.co.uk. There is no specific deadline for the application but the positions will be filled as soon as possible for an immediate start.
