Description

28/07/14 - 01/08/14

The course is designed for both beginners and those with some experience of invertebrate identification. The first day will introduce the main orders of UK invertebrates with a lecture followed by a morning of field work in which specimens will be collected. The afternoon and evening will comprise identification session in the laboratory.

Subsequent days will follow a similar pattern but each day will focus on a particular group. Day two will be beetles, day three flies, day four spiders and harvestmen, while day five will be centipedes, millipedes and woodlice. These focused sessions will aim to introduce the main families within each group and also introduce the common genera and species.

The course will provide an opportunity for participants to become familiar with the guides and keys available for the identification of UK invertebrates. Plus introducing them to a wide range of field and sampling techniques.
