Description

Description: The Natural Capital Project at Stanford University is urgently seeking two undergraduate or graduate student interns to assist in several innovative projects. Successful applicants will be motivated, responsible self-starters, able to work with minimum direction and in a multidisciplinary team. Applicants should be interested in conservation, global water issues, sustainability, and ecosystem services and economics. Interns will work closely with several staff including the Lead Scientist, Lead Hydrologist, Economists, and GIS Analysts.

Both internships will focus on the Natural Capital Project's InVEST (Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs) software, designed to allow managers to assess the level and value of ecosystem services provided by land and seascapes today, and in the future.

User's Guide: One internship position involves professionalizing the InVEST user's guide working closely with the development team, and standardizing the format for all parts of the user's guide. For this position, we are looking for someone with a creative eye, who can help make the guide more readable, practical and aesthetically pleasing. Applicants with writing, communications, graphic design, or arts backgrounds or interests are encouraged.

Hydrologic Models Quality Assurance/Data Preparation: The second internship position involves supporting the hydrologic modeling team by conducting quality assurance and models runs. This may include preparing data for model runs, reviewing literature, constructing parameter databases, and updating the technical aspects of the user's guide. For this position, we are looking for people with backgrounds in hydrology or water resources and geographic information systems.

These internship positions are available now. Advanced undergraduate students and graduate students are encouraged to apply. These internships are part-time, with up to 20 hours per week for 3-6 months, with the possibility for extension.
