Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) is seeking two International Membership Development Officers (IMDO). The IMDO will be based in Amsterdam and will be part of a small global team that coordinates the overall implementation of FoEI's membership development strategy.  The IMDO will work towards supporting the organizational strengthening and network engagement of FoEI's 75 member groups, as well as support the strengthening of regional structures and cross-regional learning among member groups in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.  The IMDO will also help to ensure that the perspectives of member groups are included in FoEI's international campaign work, and that member groups have the capacities needed for politically aligned and effective campaign engagement.  The IMDO will work to synthesize and make shareable the knowledge, skills and expertise already within the network.  The IMDO will be accountable to the International Membership Development Coordinator.

Job responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the implementation of FoEI's membership development strategy;
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of multiple organizational capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening member groups, regional structures, cross-regional collaboration and the FoEI federation as a whole, in order to deliver on internationally-agreed objectives;
  • Facilitate a coordinated approach of membership expansion with regional structures and the FoEI Executive Committee;
  • Support FoEI's urgent action response work for environmental justice activists at risk;
  • Liaise with program and communications teams to develop a broad range of internal communications materials aimed at improving and innovating knowledge-sharing and diffusion across the federation;
  • Ensure quality case-management of member group capacity-building interventions; support and improve the planning, monitoring, evaluation and organizational learning systems of FoEI;
  • Support fundraising efforts related to FoEI's membership development and program work

Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, values and objectives of Friends of the Earth International;
  • At least three years' of (broad) experience of working to strengthen campaign organizations, international advocacy networks, and/or movement-based organizations for 'system change';
  • Prior experience working with organizations to address (intersectional) inequalities (both within an organization and as part of its campaign/outreach work) would be an advantage;
  • At least three years of experience in managing international or multinational projects;
  • Excellent strategic thinking and planning skills, with experience in applying these in a complex and shifting international context;
  • Proven writing skills; ability to synthesize and distribute information quickly;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work in collaborative decision-making processes in a global, decentralized environment and to manage and prioritize a variety of key initiatives concurrently;
  • Excellent English language skills; fluency in at least 1 other language, especially of relevance: Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Indonesian and Mandarin.
  • Permission to work in EU required; no relocation package offered.
  • Preferably from the 'global south'

    citizens), and will require being physically based in the Netherlands.
