We work frequently with colleagues from other ICF offices, particularly those in Brussels, USA, Canada, India, China and Brazil. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing London team. We’re looking for a Research Assistant to support colleagues in delivering and winning climate policy (mitigation and adaptation) and strategy contracts for European Commission, governments and private sector clients, working within a team of analysts, economists, scientists and technical specialists across our international network of offices.  Ideal candidates will have an excellent academic background in technical and quantitative analysis, and experience in applying this in policy development consultancy projects for governments or European Commission.   

Main Tasks: 

  • Support the delivery of climate policy and strategy projects and proposals for European Commission, governments and private sector clients.
  • Provide high quality data collection, stakeholder engagement, technical assessment, data analysis (cost-benefit analysis), report writing and presentations on climate policy.
  • Manage work within quality, time and budget constraints.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a range of key clients in this field.
  • Market the company at client meetings, events and networking groups through presentation of papers on pertinent topics.
  • Develop expertise and intellectual property within the company on climate policy issues. 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • A degree in engineering or science.
  • Relevant master’s degree in policy or economics.
  • Relevant professional experience, preferably in a consulting background.
  • Experience delivering climate mitigation policy and strategy contracts for European Commission, governments and/or private sector clients.
  • Expertise in key GHG emitting sectors, GHG mitigation measures and costs, cost-effectiveness analysis and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Knowledge of national and international climate policies, carbon markets and emissions trading systems.  
  • Knowledge of energy, industrial and transport sectors. 

Preferred Skills/Experience:

Excellent oral and written English.

  • Other European languages an advantage.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
  • Analytical skills in relevant areas.
  • Solid personal computer skills (Microsoft applications).
  • Ability to prioritise and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines.
  • Willing to travel within Europe and internationally.
  • Ability to work independently and achieve challenging targets. 

Professional Skills: 

  • Ability to lead and work within multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams spread across several countries and time zones.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities.
